Keeping Your Red Dragon Fluids Clean

One of the main advantages of the Red Dragon aerial ignition dispenser over its competition is that it uses constant displacement pumps to inject the glycol into the ignition spheres. This means that regardless of the drop rate, the amount of glycol does not change giving consistent ignition and there is no need to perform a messy calibration procedure.

However, there is a small price to pay for this convenience. The pump system relies on small inlet and outlet check valves to operate and these check valves can be stuck in the open position by foreign contamination in the glycol supply tank.

A similar situation exists for the emergency water system which also relies on check valves to prevent the tank from draining through the water pump. These check valves are also susceptible to getting stuck open by foreign contamination.

The easiest way to prevent these problems is to keep contaminants from getting into the tanks. However, that is easier said than done. Burning operations by their nature are conducted in remote locations. Despite your best efforts, there are going to be opportunities for foreign contamination to get into the tanks during refilling operations.

To solve this problem, SEI Industries has released a filter upgrade kit for the Red Dragon. It consists of filters which are installed on both the water and glycol systems between the tanks and the pump inlets. Each filter has a 50micron mesh screen contained in a clear plastic housing which allows a quick visual check on the status of the filter. Once a filter gets dirty, it can be easily removed and backflushed with water to return it to its original condition.

The filter kit can be field retrofitted in a matter of minutes and is available at no charge from your Dragon Ignition distributor. Contact your distributor for details.
